Mr. Alger W. Stiles, 89, of Milan Road, Milan, NH went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, November 9, 2005 at his home. He was born in Milan, NH on August 9, 1916 the son of Winfield Scott and Mary Eliza (Jewett) Stiles and was a lifelong resident. Mr. Stiles was a member of the First Baptist Church in Berlin and a US Army veteran of WW2. After returning from his military service, he worked for E.C. Stiles & Son John Deere Sales and Service of Milan, NH. He later worked in the woods and was then employed at Brown Company and James River Corporation, retiring as a Lab Technician at the Burgess Mill. Mr. Stiles was a former member and Trustee of the Milan Methodist Church. Members of the family include his wife Glenna (Gould) Stiles of Milan,, NH; 1 daughter Sherry Merrow and her husband John of Jefferson, NH; 1 son Reverend Dean Stiles and his wife Emilie of Berlin, NH; 3 granddaughters Kelly Chapman, Dawn Merrow and Eliza Stiles; 3 grandsons Nathaniel Stiles, Benjamin Stiles and Samuel Stiles; 2 great granddaughters Brianna and Sage; 2 sisters Fern Stiles of Milan, NH and Iris Frechette of Gorham, NH; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by 1 sister Caroline Lane; and 4 brothers Merwin Stiles, Lanson Stiles, Elwood Stiles and Arnold Stiles. Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon, November 12, 2005 at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church, High Street, Berlin, NH. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Milan, NH. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Avenue, Berlin on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. In lieu of flowers, anyone who wishes may make donations to the First Baptist Church Elevator Fund, 79 High Street, Berlin, NH 03570 or to the Berlin Health Department City Nursing Program, 168 Main Street, Berlin, NH 03570.
