Mr. Carl G. Langlais, 68, of 121 Highland Park Ave., Berlin, passed away on Tuesday July 6, 2010 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. He was born in Berlin, NH on November 12, 1941 the son of Leo and Adrienne (Gagnon) Langlais and was a lifelong resident of the area. He graduated from Notre Dame High School and was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. Carl had been employed by the U. S. Post Office for over 30 years. He was a member of Good Shepherd Parish, F. O. E. in Berlin, the American Legion in Berlin and the AVCC, where he enjoyed playing golf with his numerous friends and Renegade teammates. Carl was an all-around outstanding athlete. In 1957, he pitched for the Brown Company softball team at the young age of 16, played semi-pro baseball in Coaticook and for years, locally, for the Eagles. Hockey was Carls true forte. His amazing talent showed playing four years of varsity hockey at Notre Dame, many years for the well known Berlin Maroons, the Manchester Blackhawks and then the Coaticook Dynamiques. In 1968, he was a player/coach for the Berlin Maroons when they won the US Amateur National Championship Title. On March 6, 2005, Carl was honored by being inducted into the Hall of Fame for the NH Legends of Hockey. He later served on the Board of Directors for the Legends from 2008-2010. Carl was a personable, genuine person. He cherished his friends and family as well as life itself. Members of the family include his wife by common law Susan Dion of Berlin, NH; his daughter Lori Swasey and husband Steven of York, ME; his son Jay Langlais, US Army, stationed in Iraq; his step-daughter Stacy Dion of Chula Vista, CA; 3 grandchildren Kayla Swasey, Sierra Swasey and Sara Langlais; 1 sister Carol Veinote of Dover, NH; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and a son Todd Michael Langlais. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday July 9, 2010 at 11 AM at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish, 345 Pleasant St., Berlin, NH. There will be no calling hours. The Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
