Daniel Taillon, of Gorham, NH, peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by family, on May 5th after a three-year battle with pancreatic cancer, born on October 14, 1947 in Berlin, NH. The son of Joseph and Bessie Taillon. Dan started his career as a carpenter learning the trade from his father, and then later began working for general contractors throughout the area. Dan then went on to start his own general contracting business. But Dan always had a passion for heavy equipment and especially liked cranes. He felt that a crane business would work in our area, so he and his wife Jackie purchased their first crane, a P&H 10 Ton as part of their contracting business.
His breakthrough into the crane business came with building the new hospital in Berlin. At this point he purchased a hydraulic crane and Taillon Crane Service and rigging began. With the help of his wife, Dan successfully ran his crane business for the next 42 years in which time, he had numerous cranes including the largest being a 200 Ton Link-Belt Cable Crane and numerous jobs including working at the federal and state prisons, setting hundreds of houses, working with railroads, and working on top of Mt. Washington many times with different cranes throughout the years and once in the middle of the winter in sub-zero temperatures. As part of his crane and rigging service Dan also built many wood roads for the paper mills and did excavation work. Dan also enjoyed the many years he spent working alongside his son in the crane business. When Dan retired from the crane business, he decided it was time to start a new adventure which came in the form of storage units and so Gorham Storage began.
Dan was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family camping, going on trips, and driving to many states with the RV. He also loved teaching his grandsons how to run equipment at a very early age and bringing them on “field trips” sharing his knowledge of his early years as an Eagle Scout.
Dan will be extremely missed by his wife of 52 years, Jackie, his son Mark Taillon and grandsons Ethan and Evan, his daughter Lisa Pike, son-in law Allan Pike, and grandsons Cody and Kyle, his sister and brother-in-law Brenda and Sonny Couture, his brother-in-law and sister in laws Denis and Rachel Delisle, and Normand and Linda Jacques; nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as his three dogs and one cat. He was predeceased by his parents, Bessie and Joseph Taillon, and step father George Fennessey.
Dan’s family would like to thank the incredible oncology department at Weeks Memorial Hospital in Lancaster, New Hampshire and the North Country Home Health and Hospice Agency.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday May 11, 2024 at 1 PM at the Holy Family Cemetery in Gorham. The Bryant Funeral Home in Gorham is in charge of the arrangements. Donations in Dan’s memory may be made to a Humane Society of one’s choice. Online guestbook at www.bryantfuneralhome.net.
