Mr. Dennis (peakbagger) W. Pednault, 64, of Gorham, passed away unexpectedly, of a pulmonary embolism, at his home and was found July 25, 2024. He was born on December 19, 1959 in Portland, ME, the son of the late George and Florence Pednault. A 1978 graduate of Deering High School in Portland, ME he went on to attend the University of Maine at Orono, graduating with a Mechanical Engineering degree. After working at Wisconsin Tissue Mills in Menasha WI., in 1987 he came to the Androscoggin Valley working for James River Corp. in the engineering dept. In 2006, he left the paper industry and focused on the mechanics of power generation at various companies. Before fully retiring at 62, he worked from at home for about ten years.
He was an avid solo and group hiker and backpacker. He formed many strong friendships as result of hiking and backpacking trips with people met online. Of his many hiking accomplishments, section hiking the Appalachian Trail was his greatest. He was also quite active on various online outdoors forums as evidenced by his 25 years posting presence on Views From The Top https://www.vftt.org among other forums.
He was an Eagle scout and scout leader for many years. He enjoyed working on old passenger and heavy military vehicles. In his woodworking shop he built furniture, beautiful strip built canoes and a kayak. He custom modified his home’s mechanical systems to include solar hot water and electricity production along with a wood fired heating system which included an innovative heat storage system.
Family includes his brother Gerard “Jerry” Pednault; niece Josi Haskell and husband David and children; and cousins of the Senechal family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Ronald Pednault, Josi’s father.
A celebration of life will be held Friday September 13, 2024 at the Town and Country, 20 Route 2, Gorham NH from 1pm to 4 pm.
