Doris (Downes) Norton

Doris (Downes) Norton, 84, formerly of 306 Coos Street, Berlin, NH passed away on Monday evening January 8, 2018 at the St. Vincent de Paul Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Berlin. She was born in Berlin, NH on September 10, 1933 the daughter of Ira and Celia (Martin) Downes and was a lifelong resident of the area. She had cooked at the St. Vincent de Paul Nursing Home and along with her husband, she had owned and operated the West Milan Grocery Store for 10 years. Doris ran the Berlin Ladies Bowling League for many years. She was a member of the Salvation Army. Members of the family include her daughters Donna L. Grenier of Hubert, NC, Gail D. Virgin of Dummer, NH and Judy L. Guitard of Berlin; 5 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 2 sisters Minnie Oleson and Lorraine Downes both of Berlin; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Anson H. Norton on March 11, 2000 and by several siblings. SERVICES: A Funeral Service will be held on Friday January 12, 2018 at 10 AM at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Avenue, Berlin. Interment will follow in the Russian City Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
