Mrs. Elizabeth M. "Betty" Chagnon, 94, passed away at St. Vincent de Paul Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Sunday, February 4, 2024. Betty was born in Berlin, NH on July 18, 1929 the daughter of the late Placide and Eugenie (Veilleux) Turgeon and resided in Berlin all of her life. She married Raymond G. Chagnon on September 1, 1947 and together they raised three daughters. Along with her husband, they owned and operated Chagnon's Gulf Station on upper Main Street for many years. Later, she had been employed at JC Penney on Main Street. She was an active and faithful communicant of St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish.
Betty was an impeccable dresser; outstandingly creative, she took great pride in the home she designed with her interior decorating skills. She loved caring for her garden and admired all the beauty it produced, for it was “God’s Garden.” Above all though, her most treasured gifts were her children and grandchildren whom she mentored with love, guidance and advice; always encouraging values and morals to them. She taught them with her heart. She was a blessing due to her great wisdom and wit, most of all she impressed upon them the need to always walk in faith with The Lord. Although she has reached the end of her journey, she is more than a memory; she is a living presence.
Betty is survived by her daughters: Helene Francoeur and husband Raymond of Berlin, Maggie Ferrante and husband Jim of Spring Hill, FL and Fran Buteau of Spring Hill, FL; 5 grandchildren: Jason Francoeur and wife Connie of Hooksett, NH, Joe Ferrante and wife Melanie of Queens Creek, AZ, Dan Ferrante and wife Jana of Spring, TX, Nathan Therrien of Berlin and Michael Therrien and wife Samantha of Manchester; a brother Henri Turgeon of Middleburg, FL; a sister Angeline Lachapelle of Old Orchard Beach, ME; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years Raymond G. Chagnon in 2009, a son-in-law Leo Buteau and siblings Armand, Adrien, Lucien, Denis, Eugene, Norbert, Lorette Charest Belanger, Bernadette Cusson.
