Florence Hamel a long time resident of St Vincent dePaul Nursing Home, died on June 25th with the comforting presence of her son Ronald Hamel and the 3rd floor nursing home staff. As quietly as she began her life 102 years ago, she died with the same grace and peace.
Florence Marie (Dubeau) Hamel was born on May 29, 1910 to Ernest and Olida (Falardeau) Dubeau. She is predeceased by her husband Wilfred J Hamel, her parents and brothers Ernest (Alcime) Dubeau Jr, and Willie Dubeau, Mickey Dubeau and a sister Theresa Dubeau..
She was a gifted seamstress and her handiwork, quilting and embroidery were cherished by those family members who received them. Florence fondly remembered attending a Chautauqua event in 1916 with her mother Olida where as a young child she started to learn about hand crafting.
On June 1, 1931 she married Wilfred Hamel. The Hamel's were a large fun loving and close family. In December 1950 they celebrated with Wilfred and Florence, the birth of their only child Ronald. Florence was a former member of the Ladies of St Anne and a parishioner of Guardian Angel Parish.
Family will remember her as a proud lady with the worldliness and common sense attitude that comes from a lifetime of accepting the hardships and blessings of life.
Ronald and his wife Diana want to celebrate Florence's life with family and friends during a Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Rev Kyle Stanton at 1 pm Thursday, June 28th at St Anne Church of Good Sheperd Parish in Berlin. Burial will follow at the St Ann Cemetery in Berlin, NH
