Miss Irene E. Howland, 88, formerly of 130 Plain Rd, West Dummer, NH passed away on Sunday January 4, 2009 at Country Village in Lancaster, NH. She was born in West Dummer, NH on March 3, 1920 the daughter of Eldin H. and Saloma (Leighton) Howland and was a lifelong resident. She was a member of the West Milan United Methodist Church, the West Milan Christian Women, was a correspondent for the Berlin Reporter for 34 years and was a former member of the Womens Aglow. Irene was an avid gardener and took pride in the vast amount of ribbons that she won over the years at the Lancaster Fair. She will always be remembered as a caretaker and as a hospitable community member. She will also be remembered for her quaintness and her use of proper etiquette. Members of the family include a sister Mrs. Ernestine Comeau of Lyndonville, VT; nephews Gene Comeau of Lunenburg, VT, Wayne Comeau and Lucien Comeau, both of Lyndonville, VT; nieces Patricia Parks, Gloria Gammell and Robin Larocque, all of Lyndonville, VT, Barbara Grant of Lisbon, NH, Linda Brown and Donna Payette, both of St. Johnsbury, VT. She was predeceased by her brothers Melvin, Alvin, Kermit, Jesse, Paul and Ernest Howland. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Saturday Jan. 10, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Avenue, Berlin, NH. Spring burial will be in the Sand Hill Cemetery in West Dummer, NH. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 to 1 PM, prior to the service. Anyone who wishes may make a donation in her memory to the West Milan United Methodist Church.
