Jean (Cameron) Howard

Jean (Cameron) Howard, 91, formerly of Colebrook, NH and Magalloway Plantation, Maine passed away on July 4, 2014 at Valley Terrace in White River Jct., VT. She was born in Magalloway Plantation, ME on Feb. 7, 1923 the daughter of Ewen and Evelyn (Menchin) Cameron and was a proud graduate of Gould Academy in Bethel, ME. Jean was a lifelong resident of the North Country, having co-owned and operated Howards Restaurant in Colebrook for 40 years with her husband Dean. Jean was well known for her pastry skills; many people drove miles to get her pies and donuts made daily at the restaurant. Upon retirement, she and Dean were able to travel and had wintered in Florida for many years. She was a longtime member of Eureka Chapter #2 Order of Eastern Star, was an active member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Colebrook, active with the Errol Congregational Church and in fundraising for the Magalloway Plantation Pink Church. Jean will be remembered for her lively and gracious persona and as a kind and caring friend to many. Members of the family include her daughter Deanna Howard of Etna, NH; three sons William Hooper of Doaktown, N.B., Canada, Douglas Howard of Pittsburg, NH and Cameron Howard of Colebrook, NH; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her first husband William Hooper, who was killed during WW2 and by her second husband Dean E. Howard, who died on April 24, 2011. SERVICES: A funeral service will be held on Friday July 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Magalloway Pink Church in Magalloway Plantation, ME. Interment will follow in the Magalloway Plantation Cemetery.
