Mrs. Joanne (Jo) Tanguay, 73, of Whitefield and formerly of Gorham, passed away on January 10, 2024 after years of failing health. She was born in Berlin on August 10, 1950, the daughter of the late Leo and Pauline (Devost) Marcotte. While born/raised in Berlin and spent time in both Florida as well as Whitefield, Jo always knew Jewell Street in Gorham as her forever HOME (and was not bashful to let anyone know that).
Jo married her high school sweetheart, Moe, and the duo were forever known as MoeJo. She was a Cub Scout leader for many years and was active in driving girls to 4-H events for many more. Jo was a volunteer for the Gorham Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and always volunteered at the local schools in Gorham when her children were growing up. Both she and her husband were very dedicated to improving, in any way that they could, the community that they so enjoyed.
Jo raised two children and was a grandmother to three, but touched so many children’s lives in Gorham. She just loved babysitting children and became a surrogate “grandmother” to many that she cared for.
Jo was sick most of her life, but she never let it define her. Jo enjoyed life and kept her big smile and even bigger laugh until the end. She was always kind and had a very loving nature which, anyone in the North Country can tell you about.
Family includes her son Shawn Tanguay and wife Lisa of Sutton, NH; daughter Kristy Gomez and husband Fernando of Davidsonville, MD; her grandchildren, Grace, Dominic, and Julien; and sister-in-laws Pauline Marcotte and Cecile Devost (who were the best sister-in-laws to her). She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice Tanguay and her brother, David Marcotte.
Her family would like to thank all of those in Gorham that kept an eye on her as she was losing her memory as well as all the staff at the Summit by Morrison that continued to help put a smile on her face.
Jo previously suffered from liver failure and was gifted with an extra ten years, with her family and friends, due to a lifesaving decision by someone who chose to be an organ donor. If you would like to celebrate Jo’s life please consider becoming an organ donor by visiting your local DMV or registering at www.RegisterMe.org.
Per Jo’s wishes, there will be no services. She will be interred privately at the New Hampshire State Veteran’s Cemetery in Boscawen, NH beside her beloved husband. Arrangements are entrusted to the Bryant Funeral Homes of Berlin & Gorham, NH. Memories and condolences may be shared online at www.bryantfuneralhome.net
