John J. “Jack” Gothreau, 87, of Berlin, passed away unexpectedly at his home on November 4, 2024. Jack was born in Berlin on August 4, 1937 the son of the late Christopher G. and Alberta (Marcou) Gothreau. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve for four years before transferring to the United States Air Force Active Duty, where he attained the rank of Technical Sargent and retired after 23 years of service. He was a member of St. Kieran Church, now Good Shepherd Parish, the American Legion, VFW Post 2520, a Life Member of the Cpl. Richard Demers Detachment United States Marine Corps. League and the F.O.E.
He is survived by two sons: John J. Gothreau, Jr. and wife Jeannie of Sandston, Virginia and James M. Gothreau and wife Luz of Tampa, Florida; two daughters Priscilla Gothreau of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Grace Gothreau of Hollywood, Florida; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, two sisters Clara L. Aliganga of Tallahassee, Florida and Mary C. McDowell of Kentucky; former wife Aida Gutierrez and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers Charles C. Gothreau of North Conway, NH and Gilbert G. Gothreau of Massachusetts.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 10am at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin. Interment with military honors will take place that afternoon at 3pm at the NH State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen, NH. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, November 13th from 4-6pm at the funeral home. Donations in his memory may be made to National Kidney Foundation.
