Joseph Martin of Berlin passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the Coos County Home. He was 87 years old.
Born on March 17, 1931 he was the son of Alfred and Catherine (Landry) Martin. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1950.
He enlisted in the US Army on February 9, 1948. He served at Fort Belvoir in Virginia for one year. In June of 1950 he was transferred to Giesen, Germany as a clerk. In January of 1951, he was transferred to Seventh Army Hgt. in Vaigen. He worked as a G1, G3 and G4. He was a non-Commission Officer, served as a French Interpreter, cleared for top secret, and played football for Seventh Army Ramblers for 2 years. He was discharged September 16, 1952 at Fort Devens, MA.
In February of 1954 he married Cecile Gagne and together they were blessed with three children.
Joe worked for Brown Company for eight years then joined the Berlin, Police Department in February of 1960. He is a lifetime member of the VFW, The DAV Association, the NH Police Officers Association and the NH Chief of Police.
Besides his parents he is predeceased by his brother Dennis Martin.
He is survived by his loving wife Cecile (Gagne) Martin; two sons Donald and Patrick Martin; one daughter Jeanne Theberge; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a sister Lorraine Tefft.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 10:00 at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. Interment will follow at St. Kierans Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
