Leo R. (the bread man) Savard, age 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Androscoggin Valley Hospital April 23, 2013 after a courageous 17 year battle with cancer. Leo when younger was in the church choir. Later in life he was a member of the Berlin National Guard, owned his own store on the east side for a short time until a fire occurred destroying it, delivered Jean Paul Pauqette French bread, and was probably most well known for his last job before retirement as the J.J. Nissen bread man. Leo enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved attending their school functions, sports games, and band concerts. He also loved to travel when he had the time. Some of his travels included Quebec, Georgia, Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, and Toronto as a chaperone on a band trip. He enjoyed the trip up the CN tower while there. He enjoyed the simple things such as feeding the squirrels and birds, sitting out on the front porch, sitting out back by the fire, and traveling in the motor home. He leaves behind his wife of 50 years Patricia (Jones) Savard, daughter Louise Perry of Berlin, daughter Tammy Gallant and husband Thomas of Berlin, son Kevin Savard and wife Jackie of Berlin, and son Hon Horn and wife Sokdary of Lowell, MA. He also leaves behind grandchildren Joshua, Danielle, Tyler, Christopher, Nicholas, Robin, Reto, Emaly, Khunna, Khakhada, Maradi, and great-grandchildren Alyssa, Hailee, Bryanna, Bently, and Quentin. His sister Cecile Morrissette and husband Robert of Berlin, his brother Gerard Savard and wife Lucille of Salem. He also leaves behind his faithful companion Dexter and his cat Gizmo. Calling hours will be held Friday April 26 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave, Berlin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10 AM at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. Burial will be private. Anyone wishing to make a donation please send it to the American Cancer Society in Leos name, 2 Commerce Drive, Suite 100, Bedford NH 03110.
