Lorraine M. Rydin

May 15, 1930 — March 27, 2025

Berlin, NH

Mrs. Lorraine Rydin, a lifelong resident of Berlin, NH, passed away on March 27, 2025, at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital following a period of failing health at the age of 94. Born on May 15, 1930, to the late Azilda and George Roy, Lorraine enjoyed her early days in the White Mountains with her beloved six sisters by her side. She married the love of her life, John W. Rydin, in May 1951. After finishing school, Lorraine worked alongside her husband and his family at Rydin’s Department Store on Main Street in Berlin. She later became a waitress at the Town & Country Inn in Shelbourne.

Lorraine’s warmth, kindness, and selflessness were key to her success throughout her career, but the true heart of her joy and fulfillment was always her family. Her three sons—Craig, Gary, and John—were the recipients of her unwavering love and devotion, and they stayed in constant touch with her. She adored her six grandchildren, cherishing their visits to Berlin, particularly during the Christmas season. In her later years, she was delighted to welcome seven great-grandchildren into her life.

Throughout her long life, Lorraine had the opportunity to form many meaningful friendships. Those who knew her would always describe her as selfless, kind, and an excellent listener. Lorraine’s genuine care for others extended beyond her family – she had a gift for making people feel valued and offered a comforting presence to all who entered her home.

Lorraine’s life was rich with meaning and connection, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She is survived by her sons Craig (Linda L.) of Dover, NH; Gary (Kathy) of Center Conway, NH; John (Linda D.) of Dover, NH; her beloved grandchildren Derek, Corey, Rachel, Sara and Patrick; a sister Simone Lariviere; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband John W. Rydin, a grandson Brent Rydin, five sisters Theresa Lambert, Doris Payette, Lucille Lavoie, Anita Farrington, and Georgette McCosh.

A graveside service will take place on June 9, 2025, at 10:30 in the morning at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cates Hill Road, Berlin. There will be no calling hours. For those who wish, donations in Lorraine’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements are entrusted to the Bryant Family Funeral Homes & Crematory.
