Paul Romeo Joseph Girard, 81, of Berlin, passed away on Wednesday August 7, 2024 at the Jack Byrne Center in Lebanon, NH. He was born in Berlin on January 18, 1943 the son of the late Henry and Rolande (Leclerc) Girard and lived in Berlin for most of his life. He graduated from Notre Dame High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree when he was 60. Paul was a veteran of the US Army and served in Vietnam from 1963-1968 and also served in Germany where he served as a communication specialist. He served in the National Guard, from which he retired. He had been employed by James River Corporation, managed the Advanced Bearing Store in Berlin and lastly retired from the Berlin School System as a substitute teacher. He was a proud member of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association where he was an original member and at one time held the position of Commander of the local chapter. Within the group, he was known as “Sparks”. With his membership to the C.V.M.A., he devoted much of his time volunteering. His favorite sport was hockey and he enjoyed watching his son, Jason, play sports. He coached softball and basketball for his youngest daughter, Mariel.
Family includes his children Vicky Rasmussen and husband Jay of Berlin, NH, Jason Girard and wife Bonnie of Tuftonboro, NH and Mariel Campbell and husband John of Berlin, NH; 3 grandchildren Marissa Hayes, Kristin Cyr and Jacson Campbell; 3 great grandchildren Olivia Hayes, Jace Hayes and Theodore Cyr; sister Elaine Rivard and husband Ray of Gorham, NH; partner of over 20 years Carmen Morency; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Susan Anderson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday August 16, 2024 at 1 PM at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. Visitation will be at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin, on Friday August 16 from 11 AM to 12:30 PM, prior to the Mass. Interment will be at a later date at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. Online guestbook at www.bryantfuneralhome.net.
