Robert H. Rasmussen, 88, of Berlin, passed away at his home Friday, March 15, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born on February 7, 1936 the son of the late Rudolph and Elsie (Spadgenski) Rasmussen. He graduated in 1955 from Berlin High School. He married his high school sweetheart Lillian Lang on February 25, 1956. With his wife, he enjoyed traveling across the United States several times, including on their motorcycle. Spending time with his family was his greatest joy. Every weekend was set aside to spend time together. Robert was employed as a Berlin Police Officer for several years, later working the majority of his career as a heavy equipment operator for Brown Co. and Crown Vantage, retiring in 1998.

He was a life member of the National Rifle Assoc., a member of the Fur, Feather and Fin Club, the Androscoggin Valley Fish and Game Assoc. From 1950-1972 he was an avid ski jumper with the Nansen Ski Club, having jumped off the "Big Nansen" as a teenager, and also competed throughout the Northeast including Lake Placid, NY. He enjoyed spending time at the family camps at Dummer Pond and Lake Umbagog. Robert was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, ATVing and snowmobiling with his family. Over the years, he donated countless hours to help local organizations including the Nansen Ski Club where he built numerous trails, and helped build the "new" Track and Field at the Berlin High School as well as establishing Ingersoll Field, the shooting range now operated by the Androscoggin Valley Fish and Game Assoc.

His is survived by his three daughters: Debra Desilet & husband John of Milan, Lana Richardson & husband Patrick of Bridgeton, ME, and Pamela Fortin & husband Randy of Milan; two sons: Brian Rasmussen & wife Sylvia of Berlin, and Jay Rasmussen & wife Vicky of Berlin. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Aaron, Rachel, Marissa, Kristin, Ryan, Christopher, Matthew, and Ian; 9 great-grandchildren: Ella, Brenna, Olivia, Jace, Theodore, Sophia, Ryli, Abel and Kameron; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Lillian (Lang) Rasmussen, a son Gary Rasmussen, a grandson Nicholas Fortin, a brother Rudolph Rasmussen and a sister Ruth (Welch) Downie.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 10am at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home.  Interment will take place privately at the Sand Hill Cemetery in Dummer.
