Mr. Roland E. Pouliot, 86, of Berlin, passed away unexpectedly on Friday December 4, 2015 in the comfort of his home. He was born in Berlin on September 7, 1929 the son of Wilfred and Eva (Morin) Pouliot and was a lifelong resident. After graduating from Notre Dame High School in 1947, he entered the Air Force and served from 1947 to 1955 in Anchorage, Alaska and Albuquerque, New Mexico receiving the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. On September 24, 1955, he married Theresa Morency at Guardian Angel Church in Berlin and they shared a life together for over 56 years. He had been employed at Hodgdon Oil Co. as an office manager for over 25 years where he sold home heating systems, managed the propane plant and dispatched servicemen, until a stroke in 1985 forced him into retirement. While with Hodgdon, Roland obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from White Mountain Community College in 1982. Roland was a member of Good Shepherd Parish and had also been a member of the Holy Name Society for many years. He was on the Board of Directors of the Guardian Angel Credit Union from 1967 to 1989. Roland was first and foremost a family man and his devotion to and pride in his family was evident to all who met him. In her declining years, he lovingly cared for Theresa in their home until her death. In recent years, he enjoyed sharing family photos with friends and strangers alike. His passion, however, was hockey! Roland played hockey as a defenseman for Notre Dame High School and was a member of the 1947 N. H. State Championship team. He was nicknamed Clapper because he played so fearlessly in the style of a famous Boston Bruin by that name. Roland coached Berlin Youth Hockey for several years and was proud of passing on his love of the game and his work ethic to many local boys. He also enjoyed horses, especially draft horses, and was excited to watch one of his granddaughters winning medals in dressage and sharing in that interest. Family includes his son Gary Pouliot of So. Berwick, ME; daughters Joanne Legare and husband Charles of Berlin, NH, and Carol Pouliot and wife Michelle Fisher of Stamford, CT; grandchildren Abigail Batchelder and husband Matthew of Plymouth, NH, Timothy Losee of Springfield, MA, Katherine Pouliot and Grace Pouliot of So. Berwick, ME; great granddaughters Samantha and Madison Batchelder of Plymouth, NH; one brother-in-law John Morency and wife Joan of La Habra, CA; one sister-in-law Georgette Morency of Fort Pierce, FL; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Theresa (Morency) Pouliot on Jan. 11, 2012, and 7 siblings Sr. Yvonne Pouliot, Theodore Pouliot, Yvette Frechette, Lucien Pouliot, Jeanne Couture and infants Alice Pouliot and Maurice Pouliot. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday December 11, 2015 at 1 PM at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. Interment will be in St. Kieran Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin on Friday morning from 11 AM to 12:30 PM, prior to the Mass.
