Yolande Vallieres, for many years a resident of Hawthorne House Nursing Home, Freeport ME, died there on February 8. She was 96 years old.
Born in Berlin NH on November 5, 1919, Ms. Vallieres was one of four children of Arthur and Antoinette Vallieres, both natives of Berlin. Her brothers, Jean-Joffre, Vincent, and Cyril, predeceased her. She is survived by two cousins, Howard Webber, of Bedford, MA, and George Brooks, of South Burlington, VT.
Ms. Vallieres attended St. Regis Academy in Berlin and graduated from Berlin High School in 1937. After graduation, she served as a nanny to the Angelides family in Berlin and became close to the Angelides children, particularly to Kay and Cynthia (now Kay Bournakel and Cynthia Arnold), who live in Yarmouth and Brunswick ME. Later Ms. Vallieres was appointed secretary of the Public Works Department of the City of Berlin, remaining in that position until her retirement.
When she gave up her private apartment in Berlin, she moved to an apartment in St. Regis House, an assisted-living facility that occupies the same space as the school she went to as a girl. Later she was invited by Kay and Cynthia to move to Hawthorne House, where they would be nearby and she could receive the care she needed.
Ms. Vallieres was for many years a member of St. Annes church, now the Good Shepherd Parish, in Berlin. A memorial service is planned later in the year. Yolande was beloved in the community.
